Transfer of Credit: The Graduate College
Subject to the approval of the major advisor and the division director, graduate level courses taken at other institutions may be applied to the graduate degree requirements at Rush if they are judged to meet divisional requirements. Grades from courses transferred from another institution are not recorded on the student's academic record; the number of credits is recorded and added to the cumulative number of credits.
Transfer of Credit Policy: Communication Disorders & Sciences
The issue of transfer credit will be addressed only after the student is accepted into the program. Students should check with their academic advisors about the feasibility and process for transferring credit.
Audiology
The faculty may approve graduate level transfer credit at the grade of "B" or better, not to exceed 45 quarter hours. Of those, a maximum of six quarter hours may be earned for clinical education experiences and a maximum of 39 quarter hours may be earned for didactic courses. The instructor who teaches the equivalent course at Rush and the Department Chairperson recommend whether or not to approve credit for transfer.
Speech-Language Pathology
The faculty may approve graduate level transfer credit from accredited universities at the grade of "B" or better, not to exceed a total of 12 quarter hour credits. Practicum experience at the graduate level may be transferred, not to exceed three quarter hour credits. The instructor who teaches the equivalent course at Rush and the Department Chairperson recommend whether or not to approve credit for transfer.
Transfer of Credit: College of Health Sciences
Undergraduate courses taken at a regionally accredited college or university that fulfill the prerequisite requirements for admission to a program offered by the College may be applied toward the baccalaureate degree, subject to approval by the department. In addition, some programs may accept students who may have additional co-requisite course requirements that may be completed at another regionally accredited college or university, concurrent with enrollment at Rush University.
Graduate credit earned at a regionally accredited college or university may be applied to the master of science degree requirements for Rush, subject to the approval of the department. Before this credit may be approved to meet degree requirements, a Petition to Transfer Credit form must be completed. The form should be completed during the first quarter of enrollment in the degree program. After matriculation, students who plan to request credit for courses taken elsewhere must either complete the Petition to Transfer Credit form or register for concurrent enrollment. Information regarding either of these options is available in the Office of the Registrar. Prior approval of the department chairperson is required. The amount of credit allowable for transfer may be limited.
Transfer of Credit: Cllege of Nursing
Undergraduate courses taken at an accredited college or university that fulfill the prerequisites for admission may be applied toward the baccalaureate degree. Upper-division courses must be at the 300 or 400 level, or their equivalent, and academic in nature. For instance, courses in physical education or applied arts are not accepted. A Petition to Transfer Credit form must be completed for each course. Courses at the undergraduate level must have a grade of "C" or better to be eligible for transfer.
Graduate credit earned elsewhere may be applied to the MSN and PhD degree requirements at Rush subject to the approval of the advisor and the Associate Dean for Academic Affairs. A specified number of hours must be completed in residence for each graduate degree program. Credits in excess of 55 quarter hours, to be applied to the PhD, require approval of the Associate Dean for Academic Affairs. Before these credits may be approved to meet degree requirements, a Petition to Transfer Credit form must be completed. The form should be completed during the first quarter of enrollment in the degree program. Courses at the graduate level must have a grade of "B" or better in order to qualify for transfer. This includes courses taken at Rush under student-at-large status. After matriculation, students who plan to request credit for courses taken elsewhere must complete a Petition to Transfer Credit form available in the Office of the Registrar or online at http://www.rushu.rush.edu/registrar/forms.html.
The transfer of credit process for a required course should be initiated no later than one quarter prior to when the required course is offered and completed prior to the first day of that class.
